Thane City’s administration was being looked after by the Thane Municipal Council (‘A’ class municipality upto 1982) since the Thane City was located close to Mumbai city, the population of Thane City has grown up substantially &the present population is 915.00 Lacs. Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) was established on 1st Oct., 1982 with the inclusion of 32 villages in and around Kalwa, Mumbra &other places prior to the establishment of corporation; the entire water supply for Thane City was being made partly from the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Project &mainly from the Bawi Water Supply Project of MIDC. In order to meet the growing demand of water the then Maharashtra Water Supply & Sewerage Board (MWSSB, now MJP), undertook the MWSSP Phase-I with the and of world bank. In the meanwhile Thane Municipal Corporation has decided to undertake the plan to conducting carrying out Comprehensive Water Audit & Energy Audit for 362 Mkl Water Supply Scheme for Thane Municipal Corporation Thane for its water supply. M/s DRA Consultants Pvt. Ltd. (formerly Dinesh Rathi & Associates) is consultant to TMC for preparation of Detailed Design, Drawing, Planning and Preparation Detailed Project Report.
